da dobrowin: Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a boost in midfield as Victor Wanyama is set to return to the club early, following a controversial exit from the Kenya national team squad, as per the Evening Standard.
What’s the story?
da doce: Tottenham Hotspur midfield Victor Wanyama has been omitted from the Kenya national team squad ahead of their African Cup of Nations Qualifier against Ghana on Saturday.
Despite a known knee injury, the 27-year-old was selected for the Kenya first team, and was due to meet with medical staff from his national team.
According to the Evening Standard, Kenya manager Sebastien Migne has accused the Spurs middle man of unprofessionalism after the midfielder failed to report for international duty.
Migne said: “Wanyama should have travelled so that our medical staff can assess his injury. We should be a bit professional in such situations.”
Is this good news for Tottenham?
Wanyama is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Tottenham Hotspur this season, but as the Premier League campaign progresses he could find himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s side more often.
The 27-year-old missed the latter stages of last season with hamstring and cartilage injuries, but was included in the match day squad in Spurs’ recent defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Having Wanyama, who was deemed fit enough to feature on the bench less than a week ago, in and around the first team could be greatly beneficial to Tottenham as the season progresses.
With over 300 first team appearances for multiple top level clubs throughout his career, the central midfielder provides competition for places and cover for the regular starting midfielders Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier.
The Kenyan joined the ranks at Tottenham in June 2016 on a five-year contract, and has gone on to make 71 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions.
Whilst Wanyama might not be a go-to starter for Pochettino this season, having the midfielder back amongst the squad as soon as possible, and not picking up any further injuries on international duty, will be a real bonus for Spurs.
