da betobet: According to reports in Spanish publication AS, via The Sun, Tottenham are targeting a €30m (approximately £25.7m) summer move for Atletico Madrid forward Kevin Gameiro.
What’s the word, then?
da supremo: Well, after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title for the second successive season, Tottenham are understood to be ready to back manager Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market to ensure that they are contenders again next term.
One area the Argentine boss is looking to strengthen in is attack, as he looks to provide more support for Harry Kane.
Spurs are said to be ready to bid £26m for the France international despite him only joining Atletico from Sevilla last summer.
How did Gameiro do in his first season in Madrid?
The 30-year-old has done pretty well.
He has scored 16 goals and provided a further seven assists in 46 appearances in all competitions this term playing as a centre-forward, but he could find himself further down the pecking order next season with Diego Simeone said to be targeting a move for Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette.
What would he bring to Tottenham?
He is a little different in stature to Kane and is probably more of a second striker, but he would certainly bring goals.
With Vincent Janssen struggling to make an impression following his transfer to White Hart Lane last summer, more firepower is required to provide there is a decent alternative if Kane is rested or unavailable.
How likely is a deal?
It could all depend on Atletico’s transfer ban.
The La Liga giants are waiting to hear the outcome of their appeal and if they will be able to trade this summer, and obviously they will only be able to a deal if it is overturned.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, there is no doubt that Gameiro would be an interesting addition for Tottenham and he has certainly shown signs that he could provide the firepower that Janssen has struggled to do this season.
It will all depend on the appeal, but if Atletico win it then a £25.7m deal could prove to be a bargain.
