da lvbet: Charlton travel to the Riverside this Saturday to take on a Middlesbrough side who are also languishing in the bottom half of the Championship table.
Boro – managed by their former centre-back Jonathan Woodgate – have won just three games out of 19 this season, while drawing eight and losing eight. They currently sit 20th on 17 points.
In Charlton’s case, Lee Bowyer’s men are struggling with a number of key players missing through injury.
Lyle Taylor and Jonny Williams remain out, and the Addicks are currently sat 17th with 23 points to their name – they will be hoping to put an end to their two-game losing run.
However, to do just that, they will need to keep an eye on these two Boro stars…
Britt Assombalonga
The DR Congo striker has netted six goals in 19 Championship appearances this season, and while that isn’t the greatest return in the world, Assombalonga still poses a huge threat.
Significantly, the 26-year-old – who also has two assists – is a tireless runner and is also almost always on alert to sniff out half-chances. His goal against QPR recently, in which he latched onto Nahki Wells’ careless back-pass, is evidence of that.
Assombalonga averages two shots per game, and his upper body strength – coupled with his effective pace – makes him one to watch for Bowyer and Charlton.
Paddy McNair
The former Manchester United man has been an influential performer for Woodgate this season in a centre-midfield role, where he has been somewhat of a goal threat while also proving to be a solid presence in the middle of the park.
McNair – who defied Jose Mourinho when leaving Old Trafford permanently as the current Tottenham boss wanted him to leave on loan instead – has started every Championship game for Boro this season, scoring twice and assisting twice while also winning 1.3 tackles per game.
Charlton must be aware of the 24-year-old’s physicality as well as his underrated goal threat.
In other Charlton news, this report suggests that the Addicks’ luck might be about to change…
