da brdice: According to Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via Inside Futbol), Napoli have set a €90m (£80.3m) asking price for striker Lorenzo Insigne amidst interest from Liverpool.
What’s the story?
da brwin: Insigne’s performances have gone up another level under new boss Carlo Ancelotti and he is now attracting interest from the Reds, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
The 27-year-old has already netted eight times in just 11 games across all competitions this season, including a late winner in the Champions League against Liverpool and the opener in a 2-2 draw with PSG.
With 29 caps and four goals for Italy, Insigne is certainly experienced and he can play either upfront or in any position across an attacking three, so he could prove to be a perfect signing for Liverpool.
Attacking intent
Clearly, the Reds currently have an extremely talented front-three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, but a big-money move for Insigne could take their squad closer to the level of current Premier League champions Manchester City.
City have huge attacking options and recently broke their transfer record for Riyad Mahrez who has been used in rotation with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.
With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus they also have two top strikers in their squad, and this could be the key to Pep Guardiola’s side retaining their title this year, whereas Jurgen Klopp has to rely on his front three staying fit.
The Merseyside club then should use their financial clout to meet Napoli’s asking price if they want to move closer to the level set by City.
