One of the busiest clubs this Deadline Day is a club that hasn’t actually signed anyone, and instead used Deadline Day as an offload day.
Manchester City have officially parted with four players on loan today and all four are big names in the world of football. Meanwhile, City fans have been taking to Twitter to display their contrasting emotions at four players who have served the club with varying degrees of distinction over the past few years.
Joe Hart is perhaps the biggest and most shocking of the four, as he joins Torino on loan. The England number one had been sidelined by Pep Guardiola and although he took an impressive plunge in moving countries, perhaps his club will do a better job of giving his words to the media in the future.
Either that or he’s done a full-on Joey Barton!
The deal may have been all but finalised yesterday, and City fans may have had weeks to digest it, but it’s still a sad day for the blue half of Manchester:
Samir Nasri left City for a European side today, too. His loan deal to Sevilla was received in a vaguely similar way to that of Joe Hart by City fans. It may seem less obvious to many non-Blues given Nasri’s petulant, bad-boy side, as well as the manner in which he left Arsenal, but City fans will remember two Premier League titles and two League Cups won with the Frenchman.
The loan of his compatriot Eliaquim Mangala had City fans a little bit nostalgic, too. To most, Mangala is a flop at City given his big price tag, but to City fans, ‘Big Quim Mangala’ is an uncut diamond who may still come good. They remember his full-blooded performances and his newly-found discipline in the Champions League quarter-final against PSG, when he bossed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.
The other big-name player who left Man City today was Wilfried Bony, who never really hit his Swansea heights whilst at the Etihad Stadium. However emotional and sentimental fans were about the other exits, they weren’t about Bony.
But many City fans were asking bigger questions about departures this summer – and one name in particular kept coming up:
So there you have it – Manchester City’s departures caused a somewhat emotional reaction amongst their fans. Who knew?
Not everyone was in a well-wishing mood, though….
