According to The Sun, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is keen on signing young Liverpool winger Ben Woodburn on loan in this January transfer window.
What’s the word?
Since bursting onto the scene in 2016, and becoming Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer in the process, Woodburn’s career has stagnated somewhat. Injury struggles and indifferent form have meant that the winger has failed to build greatly on his game time for the Reds.
What’s more, a loan switch to Sheffield United proved unsuccessful. Woodburn is now back at Anfield, but is currently a long way from forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

At only 19 years of age, time is still very much on Woodburn’s side, and another loan move away from the Merseyside club would likely be the best course of action for him at this stage.
Rangers, however, should not be interested in the 9-cap Wales international. Gerrard’s side need more proven, reliable first team talents if they’re to maintain their title challenge. For the injection of invention and creativity they need, the Gers ought to instead make a move for Sunderland’s George Honeyman.
The step up he needs
The versatile attacking midfielder is Sunderland through and through, having joined the Black Cats’ academy at the age of ten. However, for the sake of his own career, the 24-year-old needs to make the step up from League One now.
A switch to the Scottish Premiership would give the No.10 the challenge he needs whilst his arrival at Ibrox Stadium would strengthen Gerrard’s squad considerably.
