da dobrowin: British Prime Minister David Cameron has stated that the truth behind the Hillsborough disaster needs to be uncovered, and that the Government will do all in its powers to get to the bottom of the disaster.
96 Liverpool fans lost their lives at Sheffield Wednesday’s home back in April 1989, and over 140,000 people have signed a petition to unveil the true cause of the tragedy.
The local police were exonerated for culpability after the incident, with rowdy supporters being blamed, but family and friends of the deceased want to know the truth.
“It’s important that we get these Cabinet minutes. You can’t have the whole truth of Hillsborough without them and we’ve been shouting to have them released for 22 years. We hope all documents will be released with no censorship,” Hillsborough Justice Campaign Chairwoman Margaret Aspinall stated to Mirror Football.
These sentiments were backed up by Mr Cameron, who wants to let the bereaved know the truth.
“The Government is committed to full disclosure of the Hillsborough information it holds. We have proposed that disclosure takes place to the families prior to wider publication,” he stated.
The loss of life is the deadliest stadium related disaster in British history and prompted the end of terracing in football stadiums across England and Scotland.
