da mrbet: According to Football Insider, West Ham United want to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama in January, but Everton should also be in the hunt.
What’s the story?
Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham would be prepared to sell Wanyama at the start of 2019, and West Ham are very much in the hunt for the midfielder.
However, it is unlikely that the Hammers will be given a free run at the Kenya international, and there is no question that Everton should be in the running.
Indeed, the Toffees are still a little short in the middle of the park, with Tom Davies the only central midfielder on the bench against Manchester United at the weekend.
On-loan Barcelona ace Andre Gomes has impressed in his two games for the Toffees, while Idrissa Gueye is also a talented midfielder.
Everton need more quality in a defensive position, however, and if Wanyama does indeed become available, the Merseyside giants should be in the hunt.
Why would Wanyama be a good signing?
Wanyama’s excellent form for Southampton between 2013 and 2016 convinced Tottenham to sign him ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.
Wanyama was brilliant during his first season at Spurs, but only made 24 appearances last term due to injury, and has struggled to win a regular spot in the early weeks of this campaign.
The 27-year-old is a real force when fully fit, however, and there is no question that he is capable of making a huge difference to the Everton midfield.
Indeed, the thought of Wanyama – valued at £27m by Transfermarket – operating in a three alongside Gueye and Gomes would surely appeal to the Merseyside club’s supporters.
Tottenham are seemingly prepared to sell the former Celtic midfielder, and Everton, who are not exactly short of cash at the moment, really should be in the hunt for his signature.
