da aposte e ganhe: Southampton captain Ryan Bertrand took to his Instagram account to post an eye-catching comment following his side’s 3-2 win against Arsenal on Sunday.
Even though the 29-year-old is currently sidelined because of a back issue, he was obviously watching on as Saints picked up just their second Premier League victory of the season, and their first since September 1.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has certainly made a big impact since being named as Mark Hughes’ successor earlier this month, and his appointment appears to have gone down well with Bertrand, who has reportedly been sent videos by the 51-year-old of the training sessions he is missing to watch during his absence.
What did he say?
According to his Instagram story on Sunday, the left-back said:
“Clear tactical instruction allowing us to get close to teams and press high, aggressive and as a unit. And we got our rewards. Finally.”
What do his comments mean?
There seems little doubt that Bertrand’s comments are aimed as a dig at Mark Hughes and Mauricio Pellegrino, and potentially even Claude Puel before that – all of whom didn’t seem to have a specific game-plan during their time at the helm at St Mary’s.
The experienced England international has certainly cut a frustrated figure at times ever since Ronald Koeman left for Everton in 2016, and he may well be rejuvenated under the club’s new Austrian boss if the performances by some of his teammates on Sunday who had seemingly found themselves in a similar boat is anything to go by.
The quotes also suggest that Hasenhuttl is going to be a good manager to work under because of his personality, tactics and style of play, and that could well be good news for Southampton in the January transfer window when they will want to attract a high calibre of player to the south coast to ensure they move further away from relegation trouble.
