da wazamba: Sheffield Wednesday’s season has just gone from bad to worse after suffering a sixth straight game without a victory in the league.
da heads bet: The Owls were thumped 3-0 at home to Reading, meaning it is now just one win in their last ten, a run that includes a massive seven defeats under Garry Monk.
The 40-year-old dropped the likes of Barry Bannan and recent January additions Connor Wickham and Josh Windass, while veteran duo Keiren Westwood and Sam Hutchinson continued to be omitted from the entire matchday squad – which has caused mass debate amongst the Owls faithful.
When asked about their exclusion, Monk said: “At the end of the day, I have been in changing rooms for 25 years and I know what a successful environment looks like.”
This is something that some supporters haven’t been able to agree with.
Here’s what has been said…
A couple of fans at Hillsborough saw the blame lie solely in Monk’s hands – one claimed it was his job to manage the egos and create unity in the dressing room whilst another brandished him as a “weak” manager, just like former Owls chief Jos Luhukay.
Hutchinson now hasn’t been involved in five straight matches, so whatever has happened between the 30-year-old and his boss has occurred in the past month or so.
A further fan suggested the team needed leadership back on the pitch, which is why both Hutchinson and Westwood should be playing as they would put everything into the game.
However, plenty of others disagreed with the above viewpoint and lambasted the defensive midfielder.
One fan claimed Hutchinson was finished at the club with another adding that he was a poisoned apple.
A further Owls supporter believed Monk had made the right call with omitting the experienced duo as several managers have clearly had issues with them.
Are you a Championship expert? How much did each of these big-money signings cost?
But for one other, he believed that Hutchinson was a better option than Joey Pelupessy in the centre of the pitch whilst also claiming that former boss Steve Bruce didn’t have any problem sorting this issue out.
And in other news, Gary MEGSON’s damning Sheffield Wednesday comments are STILL ringing true to this day…
